T & G Art

The following are a couple of new pictures of our community room we are currently building. The room is upstairs, 32' x 42', and will be a room for guests to gather, groups to hold meetings, etc. We have a lot of fun things planned for this room, but I'll save those tidbits for later. The last few weeks we've had a wonderful craftsman, Scott and his assistant Andrew, working on a number of projects around here including the gorgeous ceiling of the new community room. All tongue-in-groove, with some added cedar for contrast, it is truly a work of art and we are so happy with it. First picture below you see a bit of the scale of the room, looking at the north wall, where the entrance is and where the wood stove will be.

Above, on the west ceiling, are four diamond-shaped patterns where pendant lamps will hang.

The south wall has four large windows and these two smaller windows on top, letting in lots of light and sunshine. Above the two small windows the T & G is interspersed with cedar in a sunburst pattern.

The east ceiling is a mountain scene, with a birch icecap on the tallest mountain. You can just see in the top right a cedar crescent moon and to the left of the mountains, not in the picture, are seven cedar diamond stars representing the Big Dipper.

And on the north wall, a beautiful compass rose.

Audie and I started applying primer to the walls today, and will soon start painting. The flooring will start going in next week as well. I'll keep posting pics of the progress!

As I said in my email, the ceiling is an act of love... absolutely beautiful! I'm glad you posted a pic that I hadn't seen yet, one that gives the entire scale of the room. This is a wonderful room and I'm sure you will have many happy moments in it.

Gorgeous! This is beautiful and captivating construction! Your craftsman are artists of the highest standards!

Now this is what "luxury" looks like! I'm anxious to see the pictures once all the construction is finished!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. It really is a pleasure to work with a craftsman who takes great pride in his work, loves the room as much as we do, is creative, and easy to communicate with. The ceiling is more than we ever imagined it could be. We had no idea one could do such art with t & g!

Looks like it has come quite a ways since I last saw it! I look forward to seeing it in person Jenny. :)

Wow, this is a fantastic change from when I saw it last summer - it is simply beautiful! What detailed work that must have involved - I was trying to picture what it would look like, and your pictures really show it off well!

A link and a hint led me to your blog.

Wow! What a fantastic room! What are you going to do with it? What will you be putting into it? Is it insulated?

Thanks for your comment! Yes, the room is completely insulated. It will be used all year. This is a community room for our cabin guests: a room for our visitors to gather and hang out, to eat breakfast, for groups to hold meetings, etc. Details will come later on what will be going inside!
